THE BROADWAY MUSICAL
Mary Poppins, the musical, is based on the book series by P.L.Travers and is set in 1910 in the city of London, England. Narrated by a happy-go-lucky chimney sweep named Bert, the story focuses on the disordered home of the Banks family. The two Banks children, Jane and Michael, are hopelessly spoiled and misbehaved. With a constantly working father and a distracted mother, Jane and Michael have suffered much without strong parental figures in their lives. When all seems hopeless, Mary Poppins, a magical, disciplined, and self-reliant nanny, arrives.
Together, Mary Poppins and the children go on memorable adventures, through which the children begin to learn the importance of sacrifice and love. Eventually, Mary Poppins' influence makes its way into the hearts of the parents, and Mr. Banks puts family before work, while Mrs. Banks comes to realize her role as a wife and mother. The Banks family no longer needs a nanny, and Mary Poppins, after a job well done, sees that even she has room for improvement.
